Neverwinter MMO Officially Announced

The rumors and conjecture were true. Atari and Cryptic studios are bringing Dungeons & Dragons setting Neverwinter to the MMO space. Earlier today the press release declared that Cryptic would bring the Forgotten Realms online in the 3rd Quarter of 2011.

Cryptic’s Chief Operating Officer Jack Emmert discussed the return of the popular setting saying that it had been years since the original and that the new game would be a new version with a strong storyline.

Forgotten Realms author R.A. Salvatore is working along with the game developers on a book series that ties into the game’s new fiction.  The game appears to be co-op focused centering on 5 players adventuring teams. Keeping with the Bioware original, the game supposedly will feature a number of user-created content options to allow players to create their own tales.
