New Borderlands DLC Details Found in Patch Files

A Borderlands forum member has uncovered what appear to be details of upcoming DLC for Gearbox’s co-op shooter.

In this thread, user “Legendrew” found the following overview of the DLC in the patch that was released yesterday (you can download that patch right here at FileFront).

“Basically the ninja claptrap was created by Hyperion to stop the vault hunters from taking all the guns and treasure etc, but was too clever, he saw other claptraps being ‘enslaved’ and ‘killed’ – he wanted it to stop so he started a claptrap revoloution. Now Hyperion have asked the vault hunters to help them stop the claptrap uprising and return things back to normal but the claptraps have gone about re-animating dead people and adding claptrap robot parts to them to fight in their army. Some of the people re-animated include Dr Ned. Commandant Steele and General Knoxx.”

Now, we’ve seen leaks like this in the past, and it normally results in the company in question issuing either a flat denial, or a stern “no comment.” Gearbox is taking a slightly different approach. Gearbox President Randy Pitchford said of the leak,

“There are a few things there, but I think it’s like reading a draft of a script for a movie that hasn’t even been announced yet, let alone launched – yeah you might learn something, but it’s not the real thing and it could just drive you crazy thinking about it.

Seeing that this happened does make me want to hide some super juicy secrets in the DLC, though. If we do, we’ll be sure to hide them really good, though, so it takes more than a day to find them. I wonder who will find them first?”

It’s refreshing to see a gaming company that isn’t so uptight about a leak like this. After all, if you include something in a game (even in the source files), people will find it. The Hot Coffee mod taught us that.

There’s no word on exactly when this DLC will launch, but IGN says it is expected before the end of the year. Until then, just let the phrase “Interplanetary Ninja Assassin Claptrap” float through your mind. Yeah, I know. It sounds AWESOME.
