New Dragonball Z Video: Krillin vs. Goku

New gameplay of Dragonball Z Burst Limit surfaced today on YouTube showing Goku and Krillin fighting. The game is releasing for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on July 15, 2008 for Japan and the US. I haven’t actually played any Dragonball Z games since the PS2 and can’t help but notice that the game really doesn’t look all that “next-generation”. I’m looking forward to checking out the game and hope it has more to offer than what I have seen so far.

Wow, that looks REALLY similar to the last DBZ game I played. Almost exactly what I remember. Two thumbs up on the vast improvements I don’t see! Oh well, should be a fun fighter game from the looks of it. I have a special place in my heart for DBZ so I’m a bit biased I guess.

It’s a youtube video. Nothing looks next-gen on youtube.

@MontezumasRevenage: I took into account that things rarely look next-gen on a YouTube video. I was really talking about how the game looks pretty much just like the PS2 DBZ games. I am hoping this is simply an early gameplay video and we’ll end up with something more refined.

The difference are very subtle but apparent. Simple things like the much more fluid combat and character animations, the swaying of Goku’s clothes and much more defined character model, and I’ve played every DBZ to date and that combat is of a higher pace than capable on the PS2 version where the animations looked robotic and played out in sets. Whereas here we have defined movement that’s fluid and sequential.

You have to take into account that this style of rendering can only dive so far into graphical appearance that the standard rendering methods.

Anyways, I’ll leave you with that. Don’t knock it until you try it, eh?
