This sort of shit used to be free. I wouldn't have a problem with it if extra content like maps and stuff had always cost extra.

And what carg0 says about value is technically true; he doesn't see the value in paying that much for the maps, and you do. It doesn't make either side wrong. Throwing insults around isn't going to win anybody any converts.

The maps are a product. Any company has the right to charge money for their product. The 3 additional maps are no different than an expansion pack you would buy in the store for any PC game.

No company is obligated to give you their product for free. $3 a map is roughly what it works out to and considering how many countless hours I will spend on each of these 3 maps as an avid Halo player, it is well worth it.

It is mind-boggling to me that anyone past the age of 9 would expect to get something for free. Wow, does our educational system suck in this country.

It doesn't take an MBA to know that the point of Microsoft's existence is to create value for it's shareholders. It's not a not-for-profit charity. If they don't charge money for the products that they spend their valuable resources on, they won't be in business for very long.

I just realized something. are you even in high shool, yet? i feel like im talking to a child.

i can't be bothered to waste my time trying to explain how to avoid being taken advantage of if you're too ignorant to understand such basic principles as the 'value of a dollar' so i'm not replying after this.

What is $3 for one map? they're not offering one map for $3. they're offering three maps for $10. if you change the dynamic of the offer, you change the VALUE of the offer itself which is what i've been trying to expound. yes, there's a difference. one map might be a game to you (that's sad) but it's certainly not for the rest of us which is why videogames, in general, now cost about an average of $10-20 million to produce. and...oh, boy...you can't compare spending $3 on a multiplayer map for a game that people already spent $60, $70 or even $130 on to a cup of coffee at Starbucks. i don't have the strength to explain in detail.

my point about the ps3 is irrelevant? just because the 360 too was sold cheaper than it cost to make? what? you made the same point i made with the ps3. the reason i explicitly mentioned the ps3 (and not the 360) was that even after Sony sold it at a $200 loss (cost $8, sold at $6) they still couldn't get people to buy because consumers couldn't see the VALUE of spending $600 for a videogame console. the 360, selling at $400 offered enough VALUE to justify it's price so consumers (like myself) bought one. is it clicking yet? do you see the point i've been trying to make and how it correlates to the maps?

i am waiting until these maps are free but that doesn't excuse MS from fleecing us. i'd be more than willing to pay for these maps at a reasonable price. but $10 for three measly maps ($3.33 a map) is nickel and diming. and don't confuse this as a choice. it's not my choice to wait until they're free. at that price, MS has made my choice for me. choice is about options and there are none here. it's 'take it or leave it' with these maps at that price with MS saying "hey, let's see how many idiots we can sucker right now so we'll know how much we can get away with charging next time." and you better believe there will be a next time because they're going to make more maps, of course. which explains the whole "$10 today, $12 tomorrow" statement i made previously.

and your argument about being forced to pay for these maps to continue playing the game as an example of unfairness is so base it doesn't even merit a proper rebuttal. what you give is an example of extortion, not unfairness the former being highly illegal.

all im saying is that your money should be worth more to you but MS is betting that your desire to have these maps right now says otherwise.

what really is $3.00 for a new map? you cant even get a coffee at starbucks for that. new maps too me is like a new game, so again i dont mind. If you feel ripped off then wait till next summer. and your point about the ps3 is irrelevant. The 360 too ,costs more to make then what they sell it for.
what would be a rippoff is if you NEED the maps to play and your FORCED to buy them if you want to play BUT YOUR NOT. SO again WAIT UNTIL THE SUMMER OF NEXT YEAR and invest your $10.00. I would try - MSFT( nasdaq ). with all the people they are ripping off you know they are going to be profitable.

you're missing the point entirely. it's about VALUE. it's about getting your hard-earned money's worth.

the fact that you admit you would pay $50 for 10 maps makes you an idiot, not a bad person. if people like you were the majority what do you think we'd be charged for an entire game, let alone a disc with "10 maps"? look at the ps3. Sony "felt" you should pay $600 for it. the market emphatically said "no". not necessarily because it was too expensive; if you look at the hardware itself it cost about $800 to build but because consumers could not see the VALUE. they could not see the value of spending $600 for an electronic appliance that plays videogames and movies. that's just one example.

of course nothing is free but (for god's sake) that doesn't make it alright for corporations to rip people off. $10 for three maps today, if you think nothing of it, is $12 for three maps tomorrow.

I dont think $10 is a big price to pay. I would pay 49.99 for 10 new maps. You think all those developers and testers work for free. Do you go to work for free. They arent twisting your arm saying you need to buy them or your halo wont work. If you feel not to pay just wait until the summer of 2008. How many companies give you stuff for free after a while. Go rent a movie,it cost you money, do they give free rentals after the movie becomes old? The only thing that has been ripped off is the zipper on your mouth.

Considering the general tone of the Bungie developers and how they really wanted to make [3] for the community, I can believe this whole-heartedly. However, whilst Halo is indeed fantastic and great to play online, my gaming repetoire was just provided with two 360 additions yesterday (Bioshock and DiRT) so I won't need to be playing Halo quite as much. Still, I can wait.

“They’ve got guys who specialize in doing research on what people are going to spend and how much people are willing to pay — and they set the price point based on their expertise".

i couldn't have summarized it any better than that. but let's turn on the 'bullshit filter' and see what he really wanted to say:

"They've got parasites who specialize in doing research on how to exploit fans of a certain product. MS has nothing to lose, charging a ridiculous $10 for three maps. You've already bought the game, right? They know most fans won't wait until Spring and just because they eventually will be free doesn't absolve them of trying to extort the fan base. But niether I, nor Bungie have the power to control this issue. MS makes the final decision".

"Maps to pricey? It's a f*ing rip-off is what it is".
