New Microsoft Studio Apparently Working on Kinect Shooter
Microsoft apparently opened a first-party development studio in Vancouver last year, and it appears that studio’s next big project will be a first-person shooter for the Kinect — which will make it the first first-person shooter* on Microsoft’s first motion controller. First.
According to information gleaned from the Internet, Microsoft Game Studios Vancouver is working on a “core AAA first-person shooter using Kinect.” That was pulled from the resume of developer Shawn Woods, who posted his CV on his personal website. A community member from NeoGaf caught sight of this incriminating line from the resume, using his Internet detective skills:
Microsoft Game Studios (Zipline Studios)
Feb 2010 to Present
Art Director/Senior Artist (Characters)
Original team member in a new studio with a start-up mentality, hired a team of artists to create social microtransaction games. Over the course of the year, our studio strategy has changed and now focuses on developing a core AAA shooter experience using Kinect. Member of the MGS Creative Councel to promote job training to artists across all Microsoft Game Studios.
So there you go — it appears there will soon be something to do with a Kinect other than wave frantically at Netflix and pet virtual animals.
