New Minecraft Updates to Add Proper Mod API

As we heard at MineCon, the folks on the Minecraft development team at Mojang say their big priority for the future is to properly support mods within Minecraft, rather than force users to alter the game’s binaries to get ‘em working. This word comes straight from Jeb, who is now leading development, to Kotaku.

The biggest advantage of a mod API is that players will be able to run mods without modifying the game’s binaries. Currently it’s quite a hassle to run mods.

But it won’t be a hassle forever, because they’re going to fix it.

But that’s just one of many updates that are coming. You’ll also see, in the future, like making larger servers work better and giving you the ability to write notes and books inside the game. I don’t know why you would need to do that, but sure, bring it on.

They should also take some hints from the mods themselves. For instance, writable books is a CONSTANT cry, to the point where someone made double-page books with picture support. Drop that in officially and you’ve got a lot of very happy Minecrafters.
