New MLG Season Begins Jan 31 with SC2

Major League Gaming (MLG), the world’s largest competitive video game league, has revealed a new Pro Circuit structure for 2012. The ninth annual 2012 Pro Circuit will be divided into a four season format, with each season featuring online regional qualifiers and a live-streamed arena event that will culminate with a final in-person championship. The first title to be confirmed for 2012 is StarCraft 2, one of the world’s most popular eSports.

The 2011 MLG Pro Circuit season was the most successful to date, reaching a staggering 3.5 million unique stream viewers during combined Pro Circuit weekends. The National Championships drew an all-time high of 241,000 peak concurrent online viewers, with viewers from 175 countries tuning in to the final tournament.

While I am an SC2 player, I believe I can objectively say that the game makes for one of the best eSports for an audience to view. Veteran eSports caster Diggity explained in an exclusive interview why that may be.
