Aside from any actual glitches, I feel confident in saying that AI is the main problem with all sports games. Great strides have been made, but as someone who plays basketball videogames on a daily basis, I can’t count the number of times I see the AI let an opposing player run right past it or stand idly by on offense when the ballcarrier needs help.
So, why not just get rid of the AI altogether? That’s essentially what EA Sports has done with the new Online Team Play feature they’ve released for NBA Live 08. With it, you can have 10 real people control all 10 players in game. Awesome.
You can have anywhere from one to five players on a single console (that’ll be limited to four on the 360, given you can only have four controllers connected), meaning you could conceivably have all your friends huddled up on two separate consoles or 10 individual systems linked up and playing online.
The update will be automatically downloaded when you boot up the PlayStation 3 version, and the Xbox 360 version should be getting the update before the end of the month.
Now you’ll just have to deal with determining who is responsible for making substitutions and who gets to control Kobe Bryant.
