New Silent Hill Coming to Theaters in 3-f**king-D
Surprise, surprise, Fangoria says Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is in production at Lionsgate. Oh my. The thing is written and will be directed by Michael J. Bassett, a veteran of sorts of genre filmmaking with three pictures you’ve never seen under his belt (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch and Wilderness). It was gonna be written by Oscar Winner Roger Avary, as the first Silent Hill film was, but then Roger got drunk and killed a guy with his car.
More interesting is that the film is an adaptation of Silent hill 3, in which the protagonist is Heather Mason. Here’s the movie’s synopsis:
For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.
And it’ll be shot in 3D! Normally I like to mock this abominable gimmick, but I actually like it on horror movies. I mean, Saw 3D was pretty much the best, right? That part where the woman’s head gets smushed and the pieces fly out of the screen right at you was just about the finest moment cinema has had this year. And Silent Hill was pretty much the closest we’ve come to having a legitimately good video game adaptation thus far, so this could be it (unless the Uncharted movie comes out first). Bring it on, Lionsgate.
