Coming this fall to a gaming console near you, are THE SIMPSONS (working title). Granted there are many Simpsons titles out there, specifically the twisted and hilarious Hit and Run, but this one promises to be a bit different than any of the other installments to date. The look and feel of the game will be as close to the animation of the show, with some cell shading thrown in with it. No console will be left behind either, as it will be available for: PSP, PS2 & PS3, the 360, the Wii, and the DS.
The storyline goes as follows: Homer and his family find themselves trapped in a video game and use this opportunity to give themselves unusual powers. Homer becomes Homerball, where he picks up calories and becomes this rotund monstrosity that mows down anything in his path. Bart becomes The Bartman (obviously) and can glide through the air using his cape while shooting objects and folks alike with his slingshot. The game also promises to make fun of pop and gaming culture while providing you with 16 episodes/levels, where you can choose one of the two family members (except for Maggie) to play for that storyline â$” or switch between the two. If a buddy wants to join in on the mayhem, all they need to do is grab another controller, take control of the other Simpson in that episode, and a split-screen comes up for game play.
EA acquired the license to The Simpsons back in 2005, which scares me a little. I mean, some of the previous titles have been less than stellar in the past, but Hit and Run was a fantastic game. Hopefully it will be a solid effort, which is more than I can say for the show in the past two years â$” especially since some of the head writers have penned the script for this game. All in all though, it sounds like an interesting take on the franchise.
