New Tools Allow Devs to Create their Own Steam Sales

Gabe Newell’s money siphoning system is about to kick into overdrive.

Daily deals, midweek madness, weekend bargains, and the various holiday sales mean there is always a money saving transaction to be found on Steam. Those sales are all put together by Valve, but soon, developers will be creating and running their own discount deals.

Gamasutra passes along the news that Valve just rolled out a new Steam Discounting Feature for devs. With the new Steamworks tools, developers will have the ability to jump on board a week-long sale being put together by Valve, pricing their game however they see fit. More impressive (and potentially hazardous to the wallets of PC gamers) are tools that will enable game makers to create their own custom sales, setting the date, duration, and price.

Looking forward to seeing how this new feature is used by the industry. I suspect Steam is about to become a full on rummage sale of gaming.
