New WoW PTR Patch 5.3 Battle Pets from Burning Crusade Raids

Though World of Warcraft Patch 5.3 isn’t up on the test realms yet, the patch notes are being furiously datamined. The latest development concerns uncovering more of everyone’s favorite Pokemon-style battle pets and the new achievements associated with them.

The first is the Unborn Val’kyr above that was tweeted today by Blizzard dev Cory Stockton. Full grown, the Val’kyr served as servants of the Lich King and figure heavily in the home city of the Death Knight playable class. No word yet on how to obtain this adorable, undead death machine or what its abilities will be.

Stockton also tweeted that a new hit system will be coming to pet battles with a blog post next week explaining what’s involved. Hopefully it will make combat mechanics a little more transparent.

Second, a new achievement listing new battle pets that can be obtained from the second expansion’s raid dungeons, Tempest Keep, Karazhan and Serpentshrine Cavern has been datamined. Raiding with Leashes II: Attunement Edition is the successor to Patch 5.1′s Raiding with Leashes achievement that sent players to classic raid zones which can now be solo’d by a Heroic-geared level 90 toon. We assume the Burning Crusade raid zones are being tweaked to also be soloable (or at least the bosses that drop the 10 battle pets for this achievement.) The new pets and the item to summon them are:

  • Lil’ Bad Wolf ( Spiky Collar)
  • Menagerie Custodian ( Instant Arcane Sanctum Security Kit)
  • Netherspace Abyssal ( Netherspace Portal-Stone)
  • Tideskipper ( Shell of Tide-Calling)
  • Fiendish Imp ( Satyr Charm)
  • Tainted Waveling ( Tainted Core)
  • Coilfang Stalker ( Dripping Strider Egg)
  • Pocket Reaver ( Tiny Fel Engine Key)
  • Lesser Voidcaller ( Crystal of the Void)
  • Phoenix Hawk Hatchling ( Brilliant Phoenix Hawk Feather)

Finally, for you hardcore battle pet trainers, a new achievement Deadly Pet Brawler, will be granted to those that win 1,000 battles with all level 25 pets using the Find Battle function to challenge other players.

All of this is preliminary as information on the public test realm always changes. We’ll have a full update of 5.3 battle pets as the content patch progresses further towards launch on the live realms.
