New XBox 360 Update Out Today

XBox 360Today, Microsoft rolls out the first update of 2007 for the XBox 360. The update was set to be available for download from XBox Live around 10am GMT.

As we’ve discussed here before, this update will introduce Microsoft Live Messenger to the XBL community. With this tool, players will be able to participate in up to six conversations at a time. You can even chat with your friends whether they’re on the dashboard, gaming, jamming to some tunes, or watching movies. The really interesting thing about the Messenger service is that users can chat with PC, 360, or cell phone users.

This update will also add support for new media formats, notices when Achievements are unlocked, and USB keyboard support. Of course, Live Messenger will also feature an on-screen keyboard.

Now, I have yet to mention the darker side of the update, the oft-discussed ‘Territories’ issue, which will restrict users from downloading content not licensed for their area. My thoughts on this one are already known, so I’ll leave the comments here to you.

If you enjoyed this, consider posting a comment or share this with your friends.
