Nintendo Courting Female Gamers at 5th Annual Women's Conference

Nintendo will be appealing to attendees of the 5th annual Women’s Conference in California to discover their inner gamer. The event is Maria Shriver’s baby and according to the press release “celebrates the power of women and inspires them to become architects of change in their communities.” 14,000 women are expected to attend including 60 women considered leaders in their fields from around the globe.

Unfortunately Nintendo seems to have missed the point lining up a string of games for the Wii and DS that cater to the more stereotypical, superficial expectations of females in society. Wii Music and Wii Fit are on the line up as well as several DS games including Personal Trainer: Cooking, Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes A Day, and Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir. While I suppose these titles make sense statistically, I hope Nintendo includes some games that are less typical of offerings targeted at females. Some girl gamers like my wife and daughters may even find the selection both condescending and insulting.

Well I thought it was funny how they are stereotyping the girls like that but that is what they are after. Chances are if a girl likes guns and death, they probly already play games or have been exposed to it. They seem to be trying to pull in the girls who are not already exposed with stuff they do normally. At least that is the way I see it.
