Nintendo Reveals DLC for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and More

ssbbwall2med.jpg

Nintendo has announced that the May 13 launch of the Wii Want More service for the Wii Shop will give players the opportunity to grab new downloadable content for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Four new characters and two new stages will be available for free for one month after the Wii Want More launch. If for some reason you don’t take advantage of this sweet deal, you’ll still be able to grab the goods for 10 USD.

There will be DLC available for 27 games total at launch including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Mario Kart. The new service is also offering third party developers the opportunity to offer DLC. All of you Rock Band fans out there that were disappointed by the announcement that there are no plans for DLC for the Wii version should make it your business to tell Harmonix how you feel about it.

UPDATE: The sharp eyes of a couple of our readers have spotted something that indicates this is a hoax generated for April Fools Day. I surely hoped it wasn’t, because not only would it be great to have DLC for these titles, but I believe that Nintendo needs to go this direction to compete with XBL and PSN.

    I’m pretty sure this is an April fools joke. The only play this shows up is on the free hosting site 110.com or some shizz.

    And no, DLC had been announced as being worked on a while back, although the new characters might be a VERY cruel April Fools Joke

    @Used Cisco: An April Fool’s joke from the official Nintendo press room? Highly doubt it.

    I’m sorry, but I also have trouble believing this, especially considering the number of other jokes that have already hit today *glares at the jerk who created art for a fake Golden Sun 3*

    @Daniel,

    What makes you think this is from the official Nintendo Press room? It’s being hosted at 110mb.com. That’s no Nintendo site, I don’t care what the image header looks like. I call hoax.

    Yours is fake. Nice try. Jerks. I’m really hating all these April Fool’s jokes, to be honest.

    Zeta,

    This one’s not GT’s fault. They got duped and unknowingly passed it on. Don’t hate on GT for this one. It’s an honest mistake.

    @used cisco: I’ve seen them use that site in the past as a backup. Maybe they’re having server issues.

    @Zeta: Isn’t this time of year inevitable though? It’s the whole reason why April Fools was created 3 years ago. To help make us all look like dummies when someone pulls a prank on us. :cool:

    @Daniel,

    Ok, well, if you’re being honest, fine. Sounds odd, but ok. To be honest, I really wish this were true, I’d love some DLC for Fire Emblem and Excite Truck.
    It just sounds too good to be true and that website smells fishy. If this is a hoax, I’ll be sad now.

    @Daniel: Usually, I suppose I could deal with it. I’m just REALLY REALLY annoyed with it this year because someone posted some awesome looking case art for a supposed “Golden Sun: The Solar Soothsayer” online, along with some neat shots of a DS with the title screen on it. The thing is, I’ve wanted a sequel to the Golden Sun games for years now, and I really got excited when I saw that, only to be greatly disappointed when I saw it was fake, so now I don’t really want to deal with any more April Fool’s stuff.

    Last April fools day nintendo announced a certaint game about a fat plumber and a blue hedgehog competing in the olympics turned out to be real, but caused much speculation, it is probably nitendo’s strategy the more people talk the more FREE advertisement.

    I realy need a good reason to go back to metroid and zelda great games but i havn’t found enough replay value to go back

    Nintendo never sent out an email with this, AND it’s hosted on a popular free webhost, 110MB. I’m going to have to call shenanigans here, Shawn.

    Just a little further stuff, go to the main page of that site, http://press-nintendo.110mb.com/ and look at the links. All of them go to the official Nintendo press site, except that which goes to the 110mb.com one. Just an early April Fool’s joke some people seemed to fall for a little too quickly.

    It’s a hoax, Shawn, not a possible hoax. I’m not sure how sharp-eyed you need to be to read the domain names, though… ;)

    This joke is as bad as when EGM played that April Fools Day joke a few years ago about Sonic and Tails being unlockable characters in Super Smash Bros Melee.

    I almost bought that one too……almost….. :cool:
