Nintendo Says the 3DS Will Sell Millions!
It’s not unusual for companies to predict the number of units that a new piece of hardware will sell. After all, the investors want to know what the sales projections are, and the accountants need numbers for all those glorious charts they make.
Still, when making predictions you should always try to keep things realistic, so you can hit your goals and make the investors happy. Still, Nintendo doesn’t want to be outdone by Microsoft’s crazy Kinect predictions, so they’ve made a 3DS sales prediction that may be a little ambitious.
Nintendo has said that they expect the 3DS to sell 4 million units in its first month, and 15 million 3DS game sales in the same time span. Now, those numbers are huge, and even taking into account that they are talking about worldwide sales, I would call them overly ambitious.
After all, at least in the US, folks are struggling economically. There are a lot of folks who might like to own a 3DS, but the (estimated) $300 price tag may be a bit of a hindrance to them.
Regardless, we’ll find out just how well the 3DS will sell when it launches in Japan on Feb. 26, 2011, and in North America and Europe in March 2011. Until then, it’s all just crazy speculation.
