Nintendo Thinks 3DS Third Party Lineup ‘Best We’ve Ever Had’

Nintendo’s really excited about the roster of third-party software coming with the handheld when it launches in March.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and CEO, told MTV Multiplayer he thinks the 3DS’ third-party support is extremely strong.

The thirty titles plus titles that we’ll have at launch we think are a fantastic launch library, and certainly from a third party perspective, probably the best we’ve ever had for the launch of a new system.

The quote was in response to questions about Nintendo’s lack of strong first-party support for the 3DS. Major Nintendo franchises aren’t coming to the handheld at launch, and it’s not clear when they will eventually show up. But Fils-Aime said that “Mario, Zelda — all those titles are coming.”

We just don’t know when.

Fils-Aime points at big third-party franchises to sate the hardcore gamer’s handheld 3D hunger. He mentioned Dead or Alive, Super Street Fighter IV and Madden to keep us busy until Nintendo finishes with its own games — which are coming soon, “when they’re ready,” but not during the initial launch period between March and June.
