No, Cliff Bleszinski Is Not Working On Gears Of War Again

After Microsoft announced the acquisition of the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games this morning, many a mind turned to the series Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski. Would he be making a comeback with the franchise under a new banner?

Cliff took to his blog after the acquisition went public, and amongst the praise for Epic, Microsoft, and Black Tusk Studios was a note on his own future:

“Now that that’s out of the way…

I’m not going to move to Vancouver and work on it.

I’m not going to consult on it.

My headspace is in the future now, not the past. I have come to realize that until you give people something new to focus on they will obsess about the past. (good problem to have!)

To those of you who love Gears, I love you as well, and I appreciate your support through the years. The fandom, the cosplay, the tattoos, it all means more than any amount of money could ever mean.”

By all accounts, Cliff is still plugging away on his yet to be named or funded arena shooter project. With no official news between now and that reveal, the project might still be in limbo.
