No Mod Tools for Wolfenstein: The New Order on PC
MachineGames’ revival of the Wolfenstein franchise with Wolfenstein: The New Order looks poised to bring a lot of new ideas to the series — an alternate history, a new 1960s setting and a heavy emphasis on science fiction.
There’s something it won’t bring to the series, though: modding.
“I don’t think we have any plans for mod tools,” Senior Gameplay Designer Andreas Öjerfors told Game Front during Bethesda’s pre-E3 event earlier this month in Los Angeles.
Bethesda provided a hands-on demo of The New Order at the event, which was played on PC with Xbox 360 controllers. Öjerfors also said he wasn’t sure what the hardware available in the PC running the demo was, although he said it was “not a beast.” Still, during the hands-on playthrough, the game looked pretty good. However, the preview event took place before Microsoft’s reveal of the Xbox One, so that coupled with Öjerfors’ comment suggests we might see Wolfenstein’s PC graphical capabilities pushed further than what was in the demo. That’s a lot of speculation, though.
What isn’t speculative, though, is that players might not want to get their hopes up for building their own experiences in Wolfenstein’s new Nazi-controlled 1960s world.
