No Place to Hide in Lengthy Dying Light Gameplay Trailer
Yes, it’s yet another zombie game, and yes it promises to do things a bit differently from its many competitors, but in the case of Dying Light, it just might deliver.
Techland’s (Dead Island, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger) latest features two unique gameplay systems. The first is a parkour-like running and climbing system that makes exploring maps via rooftop — and above the undead horde — possible. The second system means those rooftops won’t always be safe.
When the sun goes down in Dying Light, zombies become “more acute while their thirst for human flesh skyrockets.” Think Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead shamblers transformed into the running, climbing ravenous fiends from 28 Days Later. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Dead Island, but I enjoyed my brief hands-on time with Dying Light back at E3 in June. The parkour stuff and day-night-cycle (and all that the darkness brings) add some welcome new gameplay elements. We’ll see what the finished product looks like when Dying Light hits PC and current and next gen consoles in TBA 2014.
