Blizzard: No Plans For StarCraft MMO
Ever since Blizzard made tons of Diablo 3 details public, like the battle.net Diablo 3 auction house and that constant Internet access is required to play, people have been completely freaking out. Most of the outrage is focused on the perception that Blizzard intends to nickel and dime their customers, which has in turn led to questions about their intentions with their other big (non-WoW) game. Will they be making any big, moneygrubbing changes to StarCraft? Like turning the series into an MMO ala WoW?
Turns out, at least for now, nothing is changing. Speaking earlier today at Gamescom, Blizzard’s Frank Pearce had this to say about that possibility:
We definitely feel like all the worlds we create would lend themselves well to multiple genres and multiple forms of media,” he said.
“So, if there was a development team within Blizzard that was free and available to create a StarCraft MMO and that was something they were really passionate about then we would certainly consider it.
“But right now, as you can see based on the presentations these guys did tonight, we’ve got our hands full with everything we’re doing. So we don’t really have any plans to do anything beyond the StarCraft RTSes and the expansions right now.
So there you go. They definitely maybe don’t plan to do it. Case closed.
