Notch Inaugurates April Fools’ With Mojang’s Next Big Game: Mars Effect

April Fool’s Day started a bit early in Sweden today when Notch tweeted word of Mojang’s next big project, Mars Effect. Why yes, that is a giant raspberry aimed in BioWare’s direction. It’s even advertised as a shameless ripoff – “After several weeks of trying to come up with a good name for the game, we finally decided not to learn from previous experiences and pick a name that’s already kind of in use by a huge existing franchise.” And they did, right down to the logo (as you can see here). But best of all are the supposed features, including “Abandoned ships full of loot,” “Waist high walls,” and “A game ending that makes sense.” Hi. Five.

We don’t want to spoil too much of the joke, so take a look at the ‘official site’ for more.

As April Fool’s Day jokes go, this is pretty great, though they kind of tipped their hand. We knew it was fake the second Notch appeared to actually commit to making a new game. OHSNAPSON.
