Notch: Win 8 Will “Ruin PC As An Open Platform.”
We know how much Notch hates Windows 8. He’s already made it clear he thinks it will be horrible for indies. But it seems his opinion has since evolved; he now believes it will be bad for PC games overall, and he’s once again taken to Twitter to deliver an epic dis on the subject.
Earlier today, he revealed that he’s been asked to certify Minecraft for Windows. He wasn’t having it. Let’s let Notch amuse us in his own words, shall we?
Got an email from microsoft, wanting to help “certify” minecraft for win 8. I told them to stop trying to ruin the pc as an open platform.
OHSNAPSON. But after dropping this killer line, he followed it up with another, presumably wearing a Kango and gold chain:
I’d rather have minecraft not run on win 8 at all than to play along. Maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to win 8 that way..
Notch isn’t alone in his hate of Windows 8, of course. Billionaire Gabe Newell has also been a blistering critic, calling it “a catastrophe‘ for PC games back in July, other industry voices have expressed similar, if less apocalyptic concerns. But Notch’s willingness to just let his I-don’t-give-a-damn freak flag fly is my favorite part of this conversation. I almost hope Win8 doesn’t tank just to guarantee more of this.
