Now Shadowrun Has a Freakin’ Kickstarter

A couple months ago, I had never even heard of Kickstarter. Now it seems a new Kickstarter project is making headlines in the gaming industry every week: Leisure Suit Larry, Obsidian, Baldur’s Gate, Double Fine, GRAW, Planescape… If that’s the case, then let’s show Shadowrun Returns some love, the brainchild of original Shadowrun creator Jordan Weisman.

Being developed for Apple & Android tablets and PCs, Shadowrun Returns promises to be a graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game with deep story interaction, meaningful character development, and highly-contextual tactical combat. Weisman’s team — Harebrained Schemes — is a small start up that includes other veteran developers like Mitch Gitelman and Mike Mulvihill, as well as some new blood.

The team has until April 29 to raise at least $400,000 and is currently sitting on just under half of that with $199,280. Not a bad start for a series with pen-and-paper origins.

Weisman explains the project in this video:

A merge of high fantasy and cyberpunk: Lord of the Rings characters in a Blade Runner setting.

Will you help the kick start?
