Nvidia Drops SHIELD Price To $299, Sets June 27 As Release Date

According to an official Nvidia blog post from earlier today, the Shield Android handheld has a new price, and an official release date.

Originally priced at $349, the one chink in the Shield’s armor seemed to be the price. But over the last several weeks, “[Nvidia] heard from thousands of gamers that if the price was $299, we’d have a home run. So we’re changing the price of Shield to $299.”

If you already pre-ordered a Shield through Nvidia or a partner like Newegg, the $50 difference will be credited back to you.

Nvidia also confirmed an official release date: June 27th. Previously, sites like Newegg had the Shield listed for a June 30th release (a Sunday), but the new Tegra 4 device will be available a week from today instead.

A price drop is always a good thing for us consumers, but I like them noticing and listening to what fans have to say and make a decision which will overall help themselves and the fans alike.
