NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer Interview with Nathaniel Chapman

Nathaniel Chapman, assistant producer at Obsidian, talks about Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer in a candid interview about the upcoming expansion. He also mentioned the beta version of the 1.07 update NWN2 will soon be released. Both Mask of the Betrayer and the update are full of new content.

Chapman assures players that the system requirements for MotB are the same as the original NWN2. He also confirms that although the story picks up immediately after the end of the NWN2 campaign, new players will be able to enjoy it on its own merits. MotB will offer closure to the events at the end of NWN2. There will be a new story new companions and the possibility of new romance for those who choose it.

Chapman touches briefly on the new playable race available in MotB, the Genasi or Planetouched. He also mentions epic feats for Rangers and Paladins and talks about the improvements in the influence system. Players can count on putting their conversation skills to use once again. Chapman also promises a visit to Rashemen and other undisclosed exotic locations.

Modders also have new content to look forward to with MotB.

Well, there are a lot of additions that have gone in since NWN2’s release in our previous updates – and most of the general improvements we’ve made over the course of developing Mask will continue to go to users of NWN2 as future updates. In addition to those general improvements, Mask also provides about 120 minutes of new music, over 20 new creature models, new races, new items, new tilesets and tileset texture variants, new terrain textures, many new placeable models, new item and armor models, and more.

It seems NWN2 players have a lot to look forward. Mask of the Betrayer is due to be released in North America this fall.
