Nyko’s CES Lineup Wants Your Wii U to be Awesome

Wii U coverage on Game Front? Heresy!

Normally I tend to agree with the above, but Nyko’s CES product lineup will improve your Wii U console to the point where you might want to actually play with it.  The most compelling product in the lineup is the Wii U Power Pak ($24.99), a 4500 mAh battery that brings Gamepad play time up to 8-10 hours on a single charge. The Power Pak replaces the internal Gamepad battery, and a screwdriver is included for installation. The size of the original Gamepad battery is downright laughable when compared to the Power Pak, which fits in the Gamepad without any sort of struggle or modification (seriously, Nintendo left a ton of empty space in the back).

If removing a battery makes you squeamish for some reason, Nyko also has the Uboost ($24.99), which latches onto the back of the Gamepad while doubling the effective battery life. Despite the added gerth, the Uboost works with the stock Nintendo Gamepad charging stand, and it includes a built-in kick stand of its own. Speaking of charging stands, the Charge Station ($34.99) can charge a Gamepad and two Wii Remotes at once. Three controllers, one charger? Sounds gross!

Nyko also has a new Wii U controller, dubbed the Pro Commander ($34.99). The Commander has an Xbox 360 stick layout, which might be preferable for some over the odd-looking Wii U Pro Controller button scheme. The soft rubber molding feels terrific in your hands (not the hard plastic found on most controllers), and it’s incredibly light for a wireless unit.

Nyko seems to have the Wii U accessory market cornered for now, and all of the offerings are moderately priced, too. Battery life for the Gamepad has been one of the glaring negative points for the Wii U, so doubling or tripling play time is fantastic news for Wii U owners. Everything mentioned above is slated for a February release.
