Obsidian Wants In On Wasteland 2. We Have To Make This Happen.
Remember the news on Wednesday that New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment is working on an unspecified Kickstarter Project? Kind of baffling at the time, I speculated that since it probably wasn’t some kind of desperate ploy (they are working on South park: The Game, after all), maybe they’re jumping on the ‘revive long dead gaming franchises’ bandwagon. Shockingly, it turns out I was absolutely right, and it’s even better than I thought. Obsidian want so to be involved in Brian Fargo’s attempt to bring Wasteland 2 into the world.
Yes, you read that right. Confirming the news, Brian Fargo told Rock, Paper, Shot gun that “I have a history with the guys at Obsidian that dates back to the days of Interplay’s Black Isle studios. Together we created some of the greatest RPG’s of all time, from Fallout 1 & 2 to titles like Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment. It is great that we now have a chance to reunite on a project like Wasteland 2.” Hang on, I need to wipe the drool off my keyboard.
OK, done. Now, there’s only one catch: The Wasteland 2 Kickstarter, already at $1,812,814, needs to raise 2.1 million dollars in the next 16 days for Obsidian to join. Which is to say, we are so damned close. So if you want to see Wasteland 2 brought to you by a Voltron composed of the people who brought us Wasteland, Planescape and numerous Fallout games, you know what to do.
