Obsidian Wants to Make Fallout: New Vegas 2

Obsidian wants to make another Fallout game, and would probably set it in LA.

Speaking with RPS at DICE, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart expressed his enthusiasm for the idea of creating a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas. He said:

“Oh, we’d love to do Fallout: New Vegas 2. It would be awesome.”

Beyond wanting to do a new Fallout game, Urquhart explained that he’d want to take the game to a West Coast setting — potentially LA. He said:

“If I think of going from Fallout 1 to Fallout 2, we tried to associate the two areas somewhat closely. “It wasn’t just ‘Oh, we’re gonna do this 2,000 miles from here.’ So I think if we were to do Fallout: New Vegas 2 – or just a new Fallout – we would probably separate it from what the internal team at Bethesda’s doing. We’d keep it on the West Coast, because we’re West Coast people. They’re East Coast, so it makes sense.

“And we need an interesting confined area. So I mean, it could be LA. Fallout LA. That could be interesting. It’d probably be The Boneyard, which is from Fallout 1. It could be very different. It could be almost a Walking Dead meets Fallout-like thing because of all the radiation.”

Would you buy a new Fallout game created by Obsidian? Where would you want it set?

Hey, as long as they try a little harder to iron out the bugs before launch, I will very happily buy another Fallout.

I agree it would need more QA time than FNV1, but I’d love to see a sequel. NV drew me in much more than vanilla F3 did.

I know I’d enjoy another Fallout from Obsidian. I just recently did another playthrough of New Vegas. If they did something set in California, I would have to wonder when it would take place because by the time New Vegas takes place, California is essentially a civilized nation, so it might not offer the “anything goes” aspect of the Fallout games.

I am throwing my money at my screen and it is not working! :(

Perhaps next time I should avoid using pennies, it is leaving dents.

I’ve barely scratched the surface of NV but it seemed pretty decent overall. Certainly it was nice to see a number of good ideas borrowed from mods – the real advantage of which is that it makes it easier for the modders to improve these the new game mechanics. NV certainly felt much more “open” than FO3, but at the same time it also seemed a bit lacking in character or something. I haven’t even made it to Vegas in the game so my impressions are pretty incomplete. Certainly the sheer amount of bugs reported were a turn-off, which is why I didn’t even touch NV till nearly a year after release. Yeah, I think Obsidian can probably do justice to another Fallout title as long as they stick to the lore and don’t get too nuts. It would be pretty awesome to revisit the areas from the earlier games in glorious 3D.
