Oculus Rift VR Headset’s Kickstarter Exploding (In a Good Way)

Within only 24 hours, the Kickstarter for the developer kit of the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset has skyrocketed beyond the pledged goal of $250,000 and currently rests at around $1,000,000 – with 29 more days to go. The device is touted as a revolutionary and affordable virtual reality headset geared specifically towards gaming. Bold to say the least, but the high rate at which support is growing has already pushed this beyond “pfft, whatever” territory.

To reiterate, this Kickstarter is meant to fund dev kits, not consumer products. Oculus’ hope is that achieving strong developer support as quickly as possible is key. That seems quite likely, too, as high profile devs such as John Carmack, Gabe Newell, and Cliff Belszinski are singing the device’s praises. According to Palmer Lucky, founder of Oculus, the sooner this dev kit gets into their hands, the better the prospect of an affordable virtual reality headset for the average gamer. Assuming you’re at all interested in THE FUTURE OF GAMING!!!

Check out the Kickstarter page for yourself, where you can watch a cool video further explaining the gadget. Pledge enough and you can get your very own Rift Dev Kit and a copy of Doom 3 BFG.
