Official: No Zombies Mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
We all expected that since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is Infinity Ward’s bag, it wouldn’t include Zombies mode, which is Treyarch’s contribution to the series and appeared in Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling has made it official via Twitter, however, that MW3 will not include a Zombies mode. Instead, the cooperative Spec Ops Survival mode we’ve been seeing previewed and even got to try at E3 and Call of Duty XP will serve as Zombies mode’s replacement.
“Although we do have a very different style of co-op in our new infinite wave based Spec Ops Survival mode,” Bowling wrote on his Twitter feed.
Having played Survival mode, I can say that it’s definitely fun, but it’s not nearly the same thing as Zombies mode. It’s extremely similar, with waves of enemies, weapons purchasing and cooperative play, but those enemies are MW3′s standard gun-wielding soldiers, not the flesh-hungry undead and other hilarious and weird things that have appeared in Black Ops’ Zombies maps. It’s probably safe to assume that Spec Ops Survival, even if updated with further maps and other things via DLC, will never approach the coolness or hilarity of Treyarch’s offerings like Call of the Dead.
