Old-School Mega Man 9 Will Feature Old-School Glitches

When Capcom says they’re making Mega Man 9 to be just like an old NES game, they really mean it, right down to the incorporating the same glitches and bugs that were prevalent on so many cartridges. Aside from the retro graphics, it seems the upcoming downloadable game will also feature some familiar NES traits, such as sprite flicker and slowdown. Luckily though, you’ll also have the option to turn all these things off. According to producer Hironobu Takeshita:

Yeah, there were some things, like you couldn’t have more than three enemies on the screen at once, so we had to make sure that that’s how it stayed in our game. In the part with the dragon with the flame, [there should be] flickering, and whatnot.

In the options of this game, you can adjust that, unlike the old games. We purposely put some of those old-school bugs into this game, so it does recreate that feel.

The development team incorporated these bugs without even having access to old development kits. It may look like a simple game, but these little details show just how much effort the team has really put into recreating the classic Mega Man feel.
