Old School RuneScape Hits 1M Players; Free Weekend

Everyone remembers RuneScape, right? The graphical browser-based game released in 2001 that was recognized by Guinness World Records, as late as 2012, as the largest free MMORPG?

Well, this weekend, you can revisit the turn of the millennium by playing Old School RuneScape and enjoying the benefits of its paid features — for free.

While RuneScape 3 is the latest installment in the series and comes complete with a sexy website, Old School RuneScape recreates the experience we all remember. Hell, you’d even think the website was built in GeoCities.

Between now and 23:59 pm on Monday, Nov. 4, non-members can experience the full members feature set of Old School RuneScape, which recently reached 1 million players. This comes just in time for the Halloween holiday event, which will enable players to get their hands on the fabled black Halloween mask, the first new Halloween mask since 2002.

Any progress made in Old School during the open access weekend will be saved, enabling non-members to continue their adventures where they left off, should they wish to purchase membership in the future.

Take a jaunt this weekend into a world of nostalgia over at the official website.

Do you remember your first time playing RuneScape?
