Old School Sunday: First Nintendo Commercial

The above clip is about as old school as it gets. It’s the first ever Nintendo Commercial. They really tried promoting Rob in the beginning, but the robot buddy became a fairly useless peripheral before long. The idea behind Rob was to give kids a robot who could play games with them. If I remember correctly, he only worked with specific games and really wasn’t all that reliable. The concept was great, but perhaps a little before it’s time. The world was not ready for Rob back then and now we are way beyond the need for a peripheral like that with the boom of playing games online.

As far as systems go, the NES definitely deserves a part in the history books. The Atari brought gaming into our homes and the NES pretty much took things to the next level. Hopefully you enjoyed the commercial. It seemed a little serious for playing Duck Hunt, but commercials were always kind of wacky back then.
