OnLive Adds Achievements, Other Social Features

OnLive has rolled out a bunch of new features for its streaming video game service in attempts to make the experience more social, and include additional ass-kicking.

In the friends department, OnLive now allows users to search for people they know using their Gmail contacts. OnLive is stepping up its email notifications, too, which will help players keep up on friend requests, messages and other social interactions within the service.

Over in the ass-kicking department, OnLive is stepping up in a couple of areas: first, it’s adding achievements to its games, which I personally find to be awesome. Second, the service is working with game developers to identify points in games where super-cool things happen, and is adding an “automatic brag clip” function.

Brag clips are basically 10-second video clips you can make while playing your games, and they’re extremely easy to save and share, but hard to anticipate. OnLive is taking the guess work out and creating brag clips for players when they hit certain cool spots in games or nab certain achievements, so you won’t have to guess at when you should hit the Record button, you can just play.

There’s also now an Instant Playback function, which will allow you to review what just happened and create clips out of it. And the service will be tracking more game stats that will be tied to profiles, too. In all, many cool additional features, it sounds like.
