Oops, We Deleted Our MMO… Forever

You’ve probably never heard of the Japanese MMORPG M2, and sadly, the most memorable thing about the game will now be the fact that it was accidentally deleted. On October 21st, “emergency maintenance” was performed on the game’s main servers, but despite the efforts of developer Sankando and publisher Hangame, the game’s data was lost. Conditional refunds will be given to some players who purchased premium items for their characters.

Uh, are we dealing with computers, or intensive care hospital patients? There’s this handy concept known as a “backup.” It keeps your data safe. It prevents your company from going bankrupt. Can the developers have really made such a rookie mistake, or is this just a cover story to hide the closure of an unprofitable product?

I can guarantee The Old Republic will never be “accidentally deleted.”
