Origin PC Launches Xfire-Powered Nexus Support Client

Remember Xfire? I can’t tell you the last time I booted up the gaming-focused chat client – Steam and Battlelog have long taken its place – but it’s still up, running, and supposedly very popular with the MMO crowd. Its heyday has come and gone, but Origin PC (no, not that Origin) might have just breathed new life into the aging service.

The Miami-based gaming PC boutique has a new support service available, dubbed Origin Nexus. Based on an Xfire platform with a fresh coat of paint, Nexus will allow Origin PC owners to chat with the company’s U.S.-based support crew. The service is 100 percent free for all Origin PC owners, and the support chat will run every day from 9:30-5:30 Eastern Time. Need driver help? Is one of your RAM sticks replete with errors? Were you kidnapped by Russian nationalists who won’t release you until Grim Fandango is published on GOG.com or Steam? Origin Nexus is there to help.

On top of service chats and meltdown prevention, Nexus will still have all the same functionality as the traditional Xfire client. Along with chatting up guild and clan mates, you can record video, save screenshots, and use the games list to start up whatever games you have installed.

Check out the above Origin PC video — it’s very informative AND it’s 100 percent dubstep free!
