Origin To Waive Fees For CrowdFunded Games For 90 Days
Electronic Arts is apparently gunning to make Origin competitive, and at the same time to win the goodwill of skeptical gamers predisposed to consider them evil, by waiving Origin fees for indie developers for up to 90 days. The catch, if you can call it that, is for games funded by crowdfunding services like Kickstarter.
The deal is valid for “fully-funded, complete and ready-to-publish games designed for digital download to PC platforms.” Qualifying games will get to sell on Origin without giving EA a cut for the first 3 months, obviously a big incentive. This doesn’t make me love EA more, but it’s enough that I will probably end up using Origin to purchase my copy of Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Returns.
