Original Bioshock Story: Nazis on an Island

nazi-symbol1.jpgMaybe it was a twist off of Wolfenstein 3d? Whatever the case, it’s a little strange that the original plot for Bioshock involved Nazis on an island.

According to an article yesterday in CVG, this obviously was a first run idea of the Bioshock design team. “It’s impossible to sit down at the start of a project and say this game will be XYZ and it will be fun. Bioshock for instance started out on a tropical island with Nazis,” Joe McDonagh, senior desiger, told CVG.

Apparently it’s fitting because the whole story of Bioshock takes place in an abandoned World War II laboratory complex, so you might be able to see how it could have had a storyline involving the Third Reich. In fact, it could have made the game a bit edgier.

Given the PC nature of gaming, perhaps it was a good idea to keep away from the subject matter. But then again, Wolfenstein 3d was such a hit that they probably could have gotten away with it. I guess for some reason people don’t mind the idea of killing off the virtual remainder of Hitler’s army.

Well considering the myriad of WW2 based Nazi killer games we have its a good thing they didn’t go along with their original plan. It might have hurt the game. The current plot is far more preferable anyway. I really can’t wait to play the full game.

It’s hardly PC to avoid killing nazis. :P Worst that happens to a game that includes swastikas and killing nazis is Germany doesn’t like it. However, it’s also cliche as hell at this point to make a game fighting nazis, and I’m glad the Bioshock team rethought that. I’m frankly pretty bored of killing nazis.

Frankly, I’m sick and tired of killing NAZIs. Good thing that they made something defferent. I believe it’s such a big hit because it’s pretty unique and fun with the twisted storyline and the “perfect society” going to hell in a handbasket. Killing NAZIs…….it’s fun but too overdone. All of these Medal of Honors with the same “Shoot NAZIs” are getting kind of annoying.
