Oskarsson Talks EVE Online – The Council of Stellar Management

Petur Oskarsson, Researcher and Developer at CCP, recently took time to talk about The Council of Stellar Management, the new democratic form of player representation in the works for EVE Online. This is an old idea revisited in a new way. Players will elect representatives to the council which will advise CCP developers.

Nine council members will be elected every six months. The council members will not have actual political positions in game but will advise developers on gameplay mechanics, balance, and player wishes.

Once again, EVE Online is leading the way in the evolution of the MMOG. First they had an economy designed and monitored with the help of a professional economist. Now they’re actually letting the players have input in the development of the game. What a refreshing take on other MMOs that forget that their players are customers, and the games are products which pay the developers and producers’ salaries.
