Ouya 2 Coming Next Year With a New Controller
The original Ouya has only been out for a few months now, but Ouya (the company) is already preparing a second Ouya-branded console for release next year, though company boss Julie Uhrmann says they’re no release date yet, nor have they settled on specs for the new machine, dubbed Ouya 2.0. Yes, Urhman had previously said they’d put out a new one of these consoles yearly, but it still feels weird hearing that again.
The new edition will come with an updated gamepad, but it’s anybody’s guess what that will be like, too. Urhman told Polygon they’ve already updated the gamepad and that new Ouya orders or separate controllers orders are being fulfilled with the current iteration. The controller will continue to be iterated, and so one with Ouya 2.0 probably won’t be the one they’re selling now. Oddly, she also said this: “I think what’s different here is that every company does it, it’s just that no one talks about it.” Umm.
Naturally, all games are backward-compatible, but not all games will probably be forward compatible, i.e. there will probably be some games that will play on Ouya 2 but not Ouya 1. Now that we’re neck-deep in the cynical Age of Ouya, let’s all remember what was going through our heads regard this machine a year ago.
