Over 2 Million Copies of Minecraft Sold on XBLA

How far it has come. Chris Charla, XBLA’s portfolio director, tweeted the the stunning sales numbers earlier this morning: “I guess I can officially mention Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has crossed 2,000,000 in sales on XBLA!!” This news is even more stunning considering the very graphically lacking, unique game goes for $20 instead of XBLA’s $15 average. And that it launched on May 7th, only one month ago.

The highly complicated math – which we will do for you – indicates that Minecraft has made $40 million on XBLA alone. Of course, this cash is dispersed among many different parties, but still – how many boxed, AAA games can boast similar numbers?

I guess we can assume this official quells the worries some had that Minecraft would not work outside the PC gaming environment.
