Overkill And Valve Collaborating On A Payday/Left 4 Dead Blend
Valve has decided, once again, to smash the hearts of gamers into tiny, tiny bits by confirming that they are still not working on Half-Life 3. No, they didn’t actually say ‘we are not working on Half-Life 3′ because that would be too easy. Instead, we can infer this sad fact from the very interesting news that Valve is teaming up with Payday: The Heist dev Overkill to create “a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead.” Yes, you read that right.
Overkill Game Director Ulf Andersson talked up the collabo on Overkill’s site. “As perceptive gamers will have noticed,” he said in an official statement, “several hints have recently been dropped into PAYDAY The Heist, which has led to various rumors. We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between OVERKILL and Valve is currently in production.” But before you go all squeeeee, there are literally no details about this sure-to-be-f*cking-awesome game, other than that it’s coming. “We are working on a very cool blend of PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead,” Andersson said. “I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.”
Just to refresh your memory, Payday: The Heist is a download-only (PC, PSN) first person shooter that, as our own Phil Hornshaw noted in his review, seems dedicated to constantly recreating the coolest bits from every action movie possible. You all know that Left 4 Dead does the same thing to the zombie genre. So this sounds like a great idea. Granted, it would be nice if Valve could just hurry up and say something about Half-Life 3 already, but this is a fine way to further line Billionaire Gabe Newell’s already bulging pockets, and I, for one, cannot wait to see more.
