Panasonic Cancels Jungle MMO Handheld

In October of last year, Panasonic announced that they were working on a device that would allow MMO gamers to play their games of choice on a portable platform. Called the Jungle, it ran on a Linux-based OS.

Today, they announced that the project has been cancelled, saying, “Panasonic decided to suspend further development due to changes in the market and in our own strategic direction.”

I can’t say that I’m terribly surprised. The pics of the Jungle we’d seen showed a device that was a bit large, and the choice of a Linux OS was curious, as many top-tier MMOs don’t even run on Linux.

Still, I wonder how much the recent announcement of the Razer Switchblade affected this. After all, the Switchblade looked to do everything the Jungle did, but in a nicer looking package.
