PAX East Dragon Age Panel ‘Brainstorms’ Standard RPG Elements

I hesitate to say too much about what I think the direction of the company might be based on recent behavior related to some of its top games – though my friends, and anyone who wants to track me down on Twitter can ask me personally – but it’s impossible not to wonder what the minds at BioWare have been ingesting after seeing the video, captured by Gamespot, from the Dragon Age panel at PAX East.

Here you’ll see them brainstorming an RPG, and their ideas are, frankly, kind of astonishing. As As Destructoid points out, their brainstorming basically involves them coming up with a number of ideas that have been staples of RPGs since the 1980s. No, seriously, watch for yourself:

This was a rather laid back, friendly panel, so it’s possible it’s all in good fun. But if this was really sincere brainstorming, and they weren’t drunk, you have to wonder why they aren’t familiar with their history of making great RPGs. ‘Ruh roh’, anyone?

Wow, that’s so amazing. So if one character wears one piece of armor, it conforms to their body, whereas if another character wears the same armor, it conforms to their body. This is truly groundbreaking stuff. And the part about variety in environments, I’m pretty sure they’re on to something here. This could be gold. In fact, I’m gonna use these ideas and hop into my DeLorean and go back to the early 90′s to capitalize on their originality.
