PAX East: MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming Mobo Coming in April
MSI debuted the Z77A-GD65 Gaming motherboard (not to be confused with the original Z77A-GD65) at CeBIT last month, but PAX East is its North American debut.
While everyone waits with bated breath for Intel’s Haswell chips and Series 8 chipsets, MSI and other hardware manufacturers are still going strong on the current gen by putting out new, high-end motherboards. The Z77A-GD65 is the latest gaming-oriented motherboard from MSI, and it’s hitting store shelves in mid-April. The Z77A-GD65 has much of the usual fare, including four USB 3.0 ports, four SATA III connectors, HDMI, DVI, UEFI BIOS, and memory support up to 2800 MHz for the overclocking crowd. There’s also a Fast Charge system, which is supposed to charge phones, tablets, etc faster than the average plug, but I can’t confirm how well it actually works.
Along with the standard motherboard features, the Z77A-GD65 has the accouterments found in the other MSI gaming boards, including Creative Sound Blaster Home Cinema, networking via a Qualcomm Killer E2200 chip, a three year warranty, and the “military class” components/capacitors that all the cool kids seem to be using these days. Multi-GPU setups aren’t a problem, either, as the Z77A-GD65 supports three-way SLI and CrossFireX via three PCI Express 3.0 slots (defaulting to x16/x4/x4 or x8/x8/x4).
