Payday 2 Is Coming For Your Loot
Payday: The Heist was a really fun, if flawed, game. It played like Left 4 Dead’s caper-obsessed cousin, and had some fantastic setpieces and really engaging cooperative play. Overkill Software has since been bought out by Swedish developer Starbreeze, but that doesn’t mean Payday is dead. Just the opposite. An announcement trailer was released yesterday for Payday 2, and with it comes a blast of information on what to expect from the upcoming shooter.
The biggest change is that missions are no longer just selectable stages. Instead, they are given out by contacts that you have to build reputation with in order to get new offers. These new contacts unlock more contacts as well, leading to a web of shady people that Overkill is calling “Crimenet.” Cheesy, right?
Besides that, there’s the typical slew of new weapons, classes, and other lovely goodies you would expect from a sequel. The gun mod system is apparently being overhauled to be more akin to Blacklight, so you will be able to modify everything from your reticules to your gun frame. You’ll now earn new gear when finishing a mission as well, rather than mission completion just being an experience bonus. Finally, you’ll be able to get assets specific to a particular mission, like a faster getaway car or an inside man. If Overkill can deliver on all these promises, Payday 2 will be one hell of a game.
