Payday 2 Will Have A Full Year Of DLC, Female Robbers Planned

Overkill Software plans to release five DLC packs for Payday 2 in the coming year, Lead Designer and Game Director David Goldfarb has revealed.

Speaking with Joystiq, he explained, “Payday 2 — just like its predecessor Payday: The Heist — is a living thing. We have five DLCs planned together with 505 Games for the coming year.”

The reveal follows Goldfarb’s expressed desire to add at least one female robber into the game, which is currently made up of four male protagonists. In an interview with OXM, Goldfarb explained that one of the things on the list is to make sure the game gets a female character.

“I’m hoping – I don’t know if we’ll get it as our first DLC, because we’d have to redo all the animations so it doesn’t look like a dude walking around with a female body,” Goldfarb said. “But I’d like to do that.”

“Believe me, I have said this and we’ve talked about it, so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of when on the timeline.

“Because I want, like I said, I want my daughters to be able to – no, I’d need to wait a bit for that – but in theory, it’d be cool for them to mask up. I just think it’d be cool if we had both, that’s all. It’s definitely on our list. One of the many things that are on our list.”

Really shooting yourself in the foot now with this ‘women need to be in every game’ crap. So you have a problem with sexualised females – even though the majority of women are in fact sexually active and interested despite what your puritanical moral compass might suggest – but you advocate women being portrayed as violent bank robbers. And again, it’s this whole “make sure they’re there” tone that is really starting to grate, like somehow the game’s quality depends on the gender or racial balance. It’s a game about robbing banks, it’s pretty mindless stuff. This is not the place to be pushing your twisted role model agenda onto the games industry. What next? A female protagonist in the next Manhunt game?

PC guff.
