I’m a huge fan of Elite Beat Agents/Ouendan, so imagine my excitement when I found out that a new PC game (that’s free, to boot) emulates the addictive gameplay of the DS rhythm game, not a whole lot unlike Stepmania does for DDR.
The game, known as osu!, is still in beta and was released to the public on Wednesday. While there are some differences in the look of the game, the core gameplay is still there. You can create your own level or download new songs (beatmaps) from the osu! forums or beatmap listing on the official website. You’ll need to register a forum account to actually download any of the songs, but once you do you’re in for a real treat.
While playing with a mouse of touchpad might not be the most ideal choice, seemingly limitless Ouendan action is just something fans of the series won’t be able to turn down.
The first song I played? “Still Alive,” that incredibly awesome song from Portal.
