Penny Arcade's Take on the Manhunt 2 Madness

Halloween saw the release of the controversial Manhunt 2 and the subsequent media frenzy that went along with it. Everyone from senators to mental illness groups seems to have something to say and are intent on making their voices loudly heard. Once again, Penny Arcade steps into the fray as profanity-laden voice of reason. Mostly, their comic for today pretty much sums up how I feel about the whole hullabaloo.

Personally, I’m of the group that couldn’t care less about playing Manhunt 2. I understand its significance from a political standpoint — questioning how much games should be censored and whatnot — but the game itself sounds like a huge exercise in mediocre gameplay with some gore thrown in for kicks, much like the first Manhunt. Of course, I’m of the same camp that also doesn’t care about either Hostel film or any Saw movie past the first one. I’d even excuse the possibility of blah gameplay if the premise sounded like it would provide more than just one horrific torture sequence after another. You want to be significantly disturbed? Watch the movie Hard Candy. Not an ounce of gore and it still creeped me out more than any other film in recent memory.

How right that chart is. Considering its reviews are hardly appeasing its situation, this is one franchise that definitely doesn’t move me.
